Flexible learning solutions
Learning Agents develops and supports learning solutions for learning and career development. We work with partners, clients and stakeholders to collaboratively assess needs, design for specific situations and implement sustainable solutions.
Our solutions are typically based on open source technologies to ensure maximum flexibility and sustainability at minimum cost. They feature thorough documentation and hands-on "train the trainer" orientation to minimize ongoing support and maximize the effective life of the solution.
ePortfolios, Web CVs, Personal Learning Environments and learning communities
A growing body of literature and practice in countries such as the United States, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada points to the effectiveness of the constructivist approach of eportfolios to foster deep learning and the authentic demonstration of learning outcomes.
A flexible eportfolio can help people learn in ways that make sense to them and build knowledge over time. If embedded in their daily life, it can become a performance support tool and Personal Learning Environment. It can help them challenge for credit at educational institutions which support the Recognition of Prior Learning. As professionals, it can help them track and demonstrate Continuing Professional Development. It can also give them an online edge over their peers in today’s competitive job market.
Career Portfolio Manitoba is a good example of the power of ePortfolio. Career Portfolio Manitoba is a community-based solution, supported by Workplace Education Manitoba and WPLAR, non-profit organizations focused on the Recognition of Prior Learning and Essential Skills in the workplace. This solution for Adults in Transition is built on an open source platform called Mahara, originally developed for post-secondary education in New Zealand, now deployed around the world in grade school, post-secondary education (including apprenticeship) and professional development. Career Portfolio Manitoba integrates tools such as self-assessments, reflective journals and file-based evidence sharing with embedded content such as YouTube and LinkedIn to help learners create customized Personal Learning Environments to set learning goals, demonstrate results and continue learning in online communities.
Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Learning Management Systems provide clear frameworks for the delivery of structured learning activities with specific outcomes that meet learning needs that can be certified. Learning Agents works with the Moodle, arguably the world's most popular LMS, with over 60 million learners on 68,000 sites in 220 countries. See current statistics.
Moodle is an open source solution which can work well in tandem with the Mahara ePortolio. The combination, often called Mahoodle, enables learners to challenge learning outcomes in Moodle courses with their ePortfolio and to export learning achievements from their online courses to their ePortfolio.
Learning Agents also works with a subscription-based distribution of Moodle called Totara, which has been specially configured for learning inside organizations. As a Moodle variant, Totara also works with Mahara.
Video and multimedia learning content
Learning Agents produces learning activities, video tutorials and interactive multimedia content for web-based learning delivery, in open environments and online courses. Several examples may be found here.
