Hello, my name is Rommuel Paragas. I am 29 years old, married with two children, one girl (4) and one boy (2). I arrived in Manitoba with my family in Manitoba in April, 2010 as Provincial Nominees from the Philippines. We were nominated by an extended family member who has been in Canada for several years. My wife is an entry level accounting clerk who is currently working part time at 7-11.
I was six credits short of graduating with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Siquijor, in Manila when our immigration papers came through.
I have decided to pursue employment as an apprentice Power Electrician due to the difficulty in obtaining Engineering credits towards my degree in Canada. I hope to begin this 4 year apprentice program through Manitoba Hydro. I also hope to settle my family into our own apartment in Canada this year, and find adequate child care for my children.
In five years, I hope to have obtained my Red Seal as a Power Electrician and be settled into a stable job, allowing my wife to pursue her accounting certification. My long term goal is to investigate the possibility of obtaining my Electrical Engineering Technologist certification from Red River College in Winnipeg. I believe this will increase my earning potential and provide a better life for my family.
